Islam considers every ailment as a test of His Ummah by Allah, hence it keeps a very sympathetic attitude towards the patients. That is why the Islamic jurists have determined that medical remedy is not contrary the trust in Allah, piety and self-discipline. Every age has seen new problems. We, too, are witnessing a large number of new problems caused due to the changes in economic setups and social ethos. The AIDS is one such ailment which has caused multidimensional social problems. We all know that the disease itself is a product of a faulty lifestyle popularised by the changing civilisational values especially the western ones. Therefore, the guidance of Shariah is required to direct the patient and the society at large about the right course of action. Feeling the exigency of this problem the Islamic Fiqh Academy (India) decided to get guidance from the Islamic scholars, Islamic jurists and medical experts on the subject.
